Doctor Fish

Sometimes the diagnosis to our ailments is our behavior.  This surreal piece depicts an anthropomorphic tree smoking cigarettes and suffering in agony as red garra, better known as “doctor fish”, are examining it.  I have chosen to create fantastic, surrealistic landscapes unquestionably enriched with meaningful lessons and toned to be aesthetically playful, which makes the messages easier to receive. They are also layered with imagery to encourage viewers to think about the entirety of the situations – the exposed flaws, the societal issues, people’s attitudes.  Holding human nature to criticism, satire has been long known for poking fun at society while inspiring social change.  That is my goal.  I am using irony and foolishness to mimic the irrationality of human behavior.  I am exaggerating sizes, using anthropomorphism, and inserting elements of out-of-place environments into human experiences to represent the absurdity of these true stories.
